Long-handled chasen — purple bamboo

A matcha whisk with a small head of prongs at the end of a long, slim handle of purple bamboo, also called shichiku — a dark bamboo whose colour runs from deep brown to almost black. The handle keeps the hand clear of a deep cup or a tall latte glass, and the small head works in a narrow vessel where a full-size chasen does not fit.

Its prong count is the number of outer prongs, the ring visible from the side. The same whisk is also made in white bamboo (GTG201011).
